Parents and children have warm memories of that special time right before bedtime, where snuggled together they end the day with a book. Reading stories and listening to music are among the most powerful and nurturing early childhood learning experiences. Realizing this to be true, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation is launching The PJ Library, a new initiative that will touch the heart and soul of two hundred young children in Santa Cruz County.

Each child, age six months to six years, who participates in The PJ Library will receive a monthly gift of a Jewish book or CD, at no cost. The books and CDs that are part of The PJ Library have been specially chosen by children’s literature and music experts, because they communicate Jewish stories, heritage, and values. Along with the gift books and music, families receive parenting books and reading guides to enhance the PJ Library experience.

Specialists have long touted the developmental and emotional benefits of introducing children to the written word and music at early ages. Books and music, the staples of childhood, have the added benefit of being a natural conversation starter for families eager to instill deep and passionate Jewish feelings in their children. The PJ Library is sure to be an essential part of your family’s growing Jewish library.

The PJ Library will begin in the winter of 2007 and is available free of charge to 200 Jewish children age six months through six years living in the Santa Cruz County. Books are age-specific.

You can register eligible children by contacting Sarah Clarkson at 831-425-7970 or Sarah@hgf.org.

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or a friend of someone with young children, you can register children for The PJ Library.

Happy Reading!
